Most people who have struggled with their weight are tired of dieting only to lose a few pounds and then gain it all back again. People need a healthy way of life that feels natural and comfortable for them. They need physical activity that is just right for them.

You may not realize it, but your mind knows exactly what you need in order to be healthy. You may have just developed some unhealthy patterns along the way.

Hypnosis is not a “magic pill” for losing weight.

To lose weight, the same science still applies. You must burn more calories than you consume. Hypnosis is a tool in this process to help your mind and body partner in your efforts. The hypnotherapy is focused on helping your subconscious mind get “on-board” with the physical changes you want to make. The reason this works is because your subconscious mind has likely developed a pattern of dieting and failing and without an intervention for that part of your mind it is difficult to change that pattern.

My approach to using hypnosis for weight loss is realistic. There is absolutely a conscious aspect to this process. Think of the hypnosis as one tool in your weight loss journey. You must consciously make choices and take action which helps the process. I do believe in “Intuitive Eating” and it is possible to lose weight not being on a diet which requires you to eat specific foods.

That being said, if one expects to lose weight, they cannot merely count on using one tool to accomplish that goal, especially long term or with the goal of establishing a new way of life.

The toolbox for weight loss includes the food you are eating, the amount of physical activity or “intentional exercise” you are doing, and accountability. The Hypnosis is to help you with motivation and changing old habits and patterns of thinking to help you want to have high quality eating habits and exercise. Accountability is highly overlooked, but we are seeing more accountablity with the increasing popularity of the “Fitbit” and other devices for collecting data on your daily habits, eating and exercise. There are many inexpensive or even free ways to track this type of data.

It is extremely important to check in with yourself and have an accurate way to measure what and how much you eat every day. Hypnosis will not make your food have fewer calories, it won’t slim and tone your muscles or lower your cholesterol. You must take action and be accountable for what you consume. The best way to do this is to track your daily progress. Awareness of what you are doing or not doing will help you as much as diet and exercise will on this journey.

These days more people than not are on diets. Some have only a few pounds to drop, others have anywhere from 20 to 100lbs. to lose.

Dieting can be discouraging because people don’t like the feeling of deprivation which tends to go hand in hand with dieting.

The reason hypnotherapy for weight loss is so different is because it isn’t a diet. It is using the power of your own mind to know what types of food and how much your body needs. A negative result from chronic dieting is the sense that we cannot be trusted with food or to make our own decisions about food.

The truth is, if we simply eat when we are hungry, eat what our bodies crave, actually enjoy what we are eating, taking time to savor each bite, and stop eating when we are satisfied, our body would regulate the type of food and how much to eat.

This is simply not true.

One of the most common and popular methods is for a person to find a healthy nutrition plan that is structured in such a way that is easy to follow and that there is a significant calorie deficit in order to lose weight and see results quickly.

I recommend this for people who have twenty pounds or more to lose. Seeing results quickly has a powerful effect on the subconscious. It feels like success, which then drives further success. Intuitive Eating

If you are someone who has less than twenty pounds to lose and you struggle with motivation to eat healthy and get the proper amount of exercise, there is another way I would suggest. It’s called “Intuitive Eating.”

Intuitive Eating is something anyone can use but I recommend it for people with a small amount of weight to lose because it is more about changing small behavior patterns which keep you just out of reach with your weight and health goals. Intuitive eating is a concept well studied and written about by two nutritionists (Evelyn Tribole, M.S., R.D., and Elyse Resch, M.S., R.D., F.A.S.A., C.E.D.R.D.) who authored the book titled “Intuitive Eating.”

To become an intuitive eater is just like returning to childhood when you didn’t think much at all about food. Children just eat when their hungry and stop when they are satisfied. Somewhere along the way, as a teenager or an adult, you may have started eating for other reasons. This is how we gain unwanted extra pounds, eating when we aren’t really hungry.

Hypnotherapy partnered with this type of eating works wonderfully to bring your body and mind into alignment when it comes to how, when, why and especially what you eat. Intuitive eating becomes your way of life so that you don’t have to diet anymore. You simply eat in such a way that you enjoy and stay in perfect balance. This way of eating is also something which can be adopted after someone has lost a significant amount of weight on a more structured nutrition plan.
